How can the city be used innovatively for food production?  The ‘Trout and Basil’ project proposes to transform a river barge into a floating greenhouse using the technique of aquaponics, a symbiotic combination of plant cultivation and fish farming.

Daily and weekly markets have been held on the banks of Lyon's rivers, particularly the Rhône, for centuries. Here, locally produced food can be brought directly to the buyer. Short distances and innovative urban agriculture are therefore at the forefront here. In addition, this repurposed ship has a green façade and an educational reception area that serves the public both as a point of sale and as a space for dialogue about urban agriculture.
